Founded in 1848, the Chicago Board of Trade grew into the beating heart of the world’s grain markets. Its Art Deco tower opened in 1930 with a trading floor stretching 19,000 square feet.

All of it watched over by a 31-foot aluminum statue of Ceres, goddess of the harvest — fittingly faceless, since no one from that high up was ever meant to see her.
