Daniel Burnham — Plan of Chicago

“Make no little plans” — Daniel Burnham lived by the line before it became his epitaph. He directed construction of the 1893 World’s Fair and, in 1909, published the Plan of Chicago, the blueprint that gave the city 26 miles of public lakefront instead of private industry.

Few architects have shaped a skyline, or a shoreline, so completely.
