Built for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, the Palace of Fine Arts was architect Charles B. Atwood’s answer to a real problem: how do you house priceless art in a fairground built mostly of plaster?
His solution was the only fireproof building in the entire “White City.” It’s still standing today — as the Museum of Science and Industry since 1933.
