Sans Souci Gardens opened in Woodlawn in 1899 as an open-air pleasure garden, one of the many amusement resorts that sprang up near the old World's Fair grounds. When it closed in 1913, Frank Lloyd Wright built Midway Gardens on the very same site — a strange bit of continuity between two very different visions of Chicago leisure.
